BLT Sandwich, in 5 ideas

  1. A great BLT lives or dies on tomato quality. Use the best ripe tomato you can find.
  2. Thick cut bacon gives a meatier bite that stands up to the other ingredients.
  3. Iceberg lettuce adds the perfect crunch. Fancy greens get lost here.
  4. Do not skimp on the mayo, it is the glue and the flavor base.
  5. Serve immediately. A BLT waits for no one.

What you need

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 4 slices bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 lettuce leaves (romaine or iceberg)
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to make it

Directions

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 8 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Toast the bread until golden.
  3. Spread a generous layer of mayo on each toast slice.
  4. Layer lettuce, tomato slices, and bacon on two slices. Season the tomato with salt and pepper.
  5. Top with the remaining toast. Cut in half and serve.
Salt the tomato slices and let them sit 5 minutes before assembling. It draws out excess water so the bread stays crisp, and intensifies the tomato flavor.
