Paletas, in 5 ideas
- Paletas de agua are water based; paletas de crema add milk or cream
- Real fruit makes these taste nothing like store bought popsicles
- Mango with chile, cucumber lime, and coconut are classic flavors
- A pinch of salt makes the fruit flavor pop
- Kids love helping fill the molds; it is a perfect summer project
What you need
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh fruit (mango, strawberry, or lime)
- 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- Pinch of salt
- Tajin, for serving (optional)
How to make it
Directions
- Blend the fruit with sugar, water, lime juice, and salt until smooth.
- Taste and adjust sweetness.
- Pour into popsicle molds, leaving a little room at the top.
- Insert sticks and freeze at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Unmold by running warm water over the molds briefly.
Money saver. Use overripe fruit that is too soft for eating fresh; it is sweeter and would otherwise go to waste.
